Venue at the Groves
I stumbled upon this site during a wedding of one of my daughter's friends. We sat under a Pecan tree grove that seemed to have plenty of birds moving in the trees during the ceremony with dozens of people milling around. Venue at the Groves is a privately owned site used mostly for weddings and speciality parties. It is located at 7010 South 27th Avenue, Phoenix Arizona. I gained permission to enter this property by contacting them. They seemed glad to let me bird the area, only a few acres in area, as long as I stayed clear of preparations later in the day. I am missing many spaces of the eBird bar graph (https://ebird.org/barchart?byr=1900&eyr=2022&bmo=1&emo=12&r=L11438783&personal=true), but have stll found several rarities at this relatively small site. These were: Acorn Woodpecker, Northern Parula, Olive-sided Flycatcher, Rufous-Backed Robin, and Cassin's Kingbird. So far, only 72 species have been documented. However, many more are possible, but species like ducks and herons will likely only show up as flyovers.
Some of the birds I might observe are limited by landscape care done my workers in the early mornings to prepare for weddings in late afternoon or evenings. This is a really nice place for 'site and wait' birding. I often come here after one of my early morning hikes to to sit and watch what comes in. There are no seed or hummingbird feeders, but the 3 primary hummingbird species (Anna's, Costa's, and Black-Chinned) are seen here.
